Is it a sign?

Someone told me once (or I read it... or I made it up) that if the universe is trying to give you a sign, you'll get the same message three times. I'm not sure you actually need to wait for the three signs if you hear or see something that resonates with you, but from what I can gather if you DO get the same message three times, well that's really a sign. A big one.

So how's this? I was at work yesterday and a colleague asked me how many glasses of water I'd drunk for the day.. since I'd told her earlier in the week that I was trying to be healthier. Another colleague overhead and said "Do you know what you need? Lemon detox!". She went on to tell me that she'd heard all about this fabulous lemon detox thing and that there's a book that follows the same principles written by some doctor. All this talk of detoxing when all I said I was trying to drink more water and less coffee during the day!

So then my friend Danielle emails me this morning and says "Hey check out Dooce. Heather's detoxing too!" So I did, and it turns out Heather is indeed detoxing. Not lemon detoxing.... she's doing some 21 day Vegan thing endorsed by Oprah. I actually like the idea behind it, which is conscious eating - but I'm not sure I'd have the internal fortitude to sustain 21 days of veganism. I'm actually not sure I'd survive even one day to be honest.. which is why I'm not detoxing!

After catching up on Dooce, I skedaddled along to a hair appointment, bought a large coffee (note: one doesn't buy large coffees when detoxing) and waited for my name to be called. As I sat in the chair, I noticed an old version of New Idea on the little table in front of me. It was opened up at the page showing Oprah Winfrey talking about her 21 day detox!!! Aaarrgggghhhh.... that's the third sign!! Isn't it? That's the universe saying I need to detox! And I don't want to detox. Waaaaaa!!!!! Do I have to???

My new niece is here!

Welcome to the world, Miss Rhiannon Paige Rhys. Born 18th June at 7.51pm and weighing in at 10lb 5oz (or 4.93kg) she is a gorgeous healthy little thing. Nice work mum on doing it drug-free. Now that is impressive! We all can't wait to meet her and have some squishy cuddles. :)

Reality check

After two weeks of work, I've been surprised at how exhausted I am. I know that it's to be expected while I settle into the new routine but I seriously think that if I'm going to survive this working and parenting gig (especially when Mel starts travelling again which will be SOON) I need to make some healthy lifestyle changes. Since starting work, I've had hardly any time to exercise, I come home and have a couple of glasses of wine to relax, then wake up in the morning and need a strong coffee to kickstart my day... and another one when I get to work... I rarely get an unbroken night's sleep which doesn't help but there isn't much that I can do about that for now. And apart from my general lack of energy and vitality, my jeans are getting tighter. Needless to say, tight jeans make mummy grumpy.

SO... today I weighed and measured myself and resolved to break some bad habits and start some good ones. I am going to post my vitals here *gasp* to keep me honest because I think I need some accountability and I'm buggered if I'm going to pay for a Life Coach when I AM ONE!!! :) I have also stuck a chart to the back of the pantry door where I can keep a daily track of my habits. Nothing like a tick chart to keep you honest. I've decided I'm going to record:

  • Exercise
  • Water
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee and
  • Vitamins

  • And I'm pleased to report it's working already. As soon as I took my weight and measurements this morning and almost died from shock I was all "Right-ho! I'm off to the gym then!!!" when I was totally going to blow it off and sit in the sun instead. *blush*

So here's where I am, at week one:

    Weight: 68.3kg
    Bust: 94cm (37")
    Waist: 79cm (31")
    Hips: 96.5cm (38")

Goal #1 is to get that first number back down to like 65kg where it should be. And in doing that, it would be nice if I lost an inch or so of my waist and hips. Of course, just my luck it'll come straight off my boobs. Doesn't it always?! Anyway, I'm motivated..... for now......

    What's wrong with my blog?

How come the words all look scrunched up? Is it just my computer or is it the same on yours? hmmm... must come back and fix that later. In the meantime, you might have noticed I've started adding a blogroll in the sidebar. Feel free to pop into any of them for much hilarity or just some inspiration.

I have to put a toddler to bed now.

    Delete Delete

I just thought I'd mention that I've deleted all references to my recent job-hunting exercise. I figure now that I've got the job it's better that I don't have that stuff blabbed all over the internet. People get fired for that sort of thing, you know?! So thanks for sharing the journey.

    Thank god it's the weekend!

    I'm exhausted!

What a lightweight I am, eh? I've worked two whole days. Ok that's a lie. I've worked two part days, and it's 7pm and I swear if Mel was home I'd be slinking quietly off to bed and hoping no-one notices. How funny.

I'm also busting to just talk to someone... anyone.. about my job and all the things going around in my head. The good, the bad, the what-if's etc.. so with Mel being away it's all a bit blah and very tiring and I feel like I'm coming down with something.

On the whole, it's good... but I'm looking forward to him getting home on Friday and I'm SO looking forward to a long weekend.

    Planes, trains and...

oh ok there were no trains. Just taxis and planes.. and our car. Annabelle and I had such a fantastic time in Sydney catching up with all our mates. It was a packed schedule which is just how I like it - we only stayed two nights - but it was great. I didn't want to come home. I sure didn't want to sell our house by the time I left because I wanted to move back into it!!! :(

Anyway, this is just a quick hello. I'll post a few photos later. I start the job tomorrow so while I'm settling into that and getting into the routine of full-time daycare I might not be online as much but I will try to post an update after my first day. Of course Mel is away this week at a Leadership Course (read: junket!) so again I'm having to do it as a single parent. His timing is always so perfect. Not.

    Dreamweaver

So there's this guy I don't really know but I kind of know online. ok... when I first started my coaching blog, I had an error message coming up which I couldn't fix, so I googled it and it turned out this dude from the US had a blog getting the same error message. So I left him a comment* and he helped me fix the problem. Since then, he seems to pop into my blog (the other one, not this one) every now and then, and occasionally I pop into his - though not very often. The other day I happened to have a look at his blog and I saw that he'd posted a dream he had the night before, so I left a comment* saying I'd try to interpret it. He replied with a comment* to say sure go ahead. Cool!

So I emailed him my interpretation of his dream and a day or so later he wrote back and said I'd touched on things he's never told anyone except his best friend. He said he'd be back with more details. When he got back to me last night, he wrote me this loooong email with all these personal details about his life and basically all the things I said in my dream analysis were spot on!

How cool is that?!! I don't know a thing about this guy. All he really posts about are books he's reading and computer games he's playing. Man, I've missed my calling. :)

*Comments are what people leave on blogs when they have... you know.. COMMENTS! Comments are good. They make the whole thing much more fun for everyone. That's all I'm sayin'....

oh and I don't think Dreamweaver is actually a person who interprets dreams. I just like the word. Maybe I should have called it The Dream Whisperer. :)

    I'm not moving, dammit

I went and looked at a nice rental property this afternoon. Bigger than our place, and cheaper! A lovely area, but a few km further to the tram stop and daycare (have to be mindful that I start WORK next week, gawd help me. so these things are important to note) and who knows how Mel would get to work if I'm using the car and he has no transport within walking distance, like he does now??

    Hmmm....

So I came home and thought about the cost of moving - removalist, carpet cleaning, forking out for bond while waiting for this bond to be released (how does that work?), plus the transport issue, not to mention that I'm about to be working five days a week, so when the far-har-hark am I supposed to find time to pack and clean??? - and I thought bugger it, we've got a lease until November and they can't make us move. We're probably going to sell our Sydney house and when we do we'll have a lot more spare cash so if we have to move in November when the lease expires, then so be it. But it's just as likely this place will be bought by an investor who'd love to have us as tenants, right? And then sometime next year we'll buy our own place. Poifect.

Seriously, my biggest concern was the inconvenience of having people come through every week and having to keep the place nice and tidy, but that seems like a breeze compared to the upheaval of moving and what it is likely to cost us. So this time, I'm not being whimsical and impulsive.. I'm being sensible. We are staying put. Phew.

PS. Wish me luck for that interview tomorrow for that job that I think I don't want anymore. Yeah that makes sense.

    Mel's going to a meeting...

.. in Cambodia. Yes, he is getting on a plane today to go to Sydney, then Thailand, then Cambodia to sit in a room tomorrow afternoon and have a meeting regarding a potential project. Then he's getting back on a plane to come home again. He will be travelling for something like 50 of the next 72 hours... for one meeting.

Does that seem slightly ridiculous to anyone else, or just me?
